Chapter 14

Bear slowly raised his hands.
Cole ordered the agents outside to withdraw.
Daniel pulled Sophie closer.
Emily held up the flash drive.
“Let her go first.”
Daniel laughed.
“You still bargain like your mother.”
Sophie looked at me.
Her frightened eyes dropped toward the floor.
A loose board moved beneath her foot.
She was showing us an opening.
I stepped forward.
Daniel focused on me.
“You ruined everything.”
“No. I believed you. That was my mistake.”
While I spoke, Sophie worked her bound hands beneath the loose board.
Cole glanced toward the approaching federal vehicles.
“Finish this.”
Daniel reached for the drive.
Sophie yanked the board free and struck his knee.
Emily rushed forward.
Bear tackled Cole.
A shot tore through the cabin wall.
Jo entered through the back window and pulled Sophie to safety.
Daniel fled into the woods.
Cole fought like a desperate man.
Bear disarmed him without firing.
Federal agents surrounded the cabin.
This time, cameras recorded everything.
Cole was arrested.
Emily held Sophie against her chest.
I thought the nightmare had finally begun to end.
Then an agent opened Cole’s phone.
There were messages from someone saved as M.
The messages warned Daniel about every police movement.
M had also sent photographs from inside Bear’s clubhouse.
One of the bikers was betraying us.
Bear looked at his friends.
Nobody spoke.
Luis was missing.
So was the original hospital flash drive.
Bear’s face hardened.
“He went after Daniel.”
A new message arrived on Cole’s phone.
It contained a photograph of Luis tied to a chair.
