Chapter 1

**My Husband Brought His Mistress Into Our Home—But He Never Expected His Mother To Be Standing In The Kitchen**
**I came home early from work and heard a woman laughing in my living room.**
**For one stupid second, I thought my husband Michael had invited a coworker over.**
**Then I walked around the corner and saw his hand resting on her waist.**
**Neither of them noticed me.**
**The woman leaned closer and whispered, “Your wife really has no idea?”**
**Michael laughed.**
**“She believes everything I tell her.”**
**My stomach dropped.**
**Before I could speak, someone behind me gasped.**
**It was my mother-in-law, Evelyn.**
**She had stopped by that afternoon to bring dinner for us.**
**Her face changed the second she saw her son holding another woman.**
**“Michael.”**
**His hand immediately fell away from the woman.**
**“Mom, this isn't what it looks like.”**
**Evelyn stared at him like she didn't recognize her own child.**
**Then she looked at the woman beside him.**
**“Who are you?”**
**The woman crossed her arms and said, “Maybe you should ask your son.”**
**That attitude was all it took.**
**Evelyn walked straight across the room.**
**Michael stepped forward, but he was too late.**
**His mother slapped the woman hard across the face.**
**The entire room went silent.**
**“Mom!” Michael shouted.**
**Evelyn pointed at the front door.**
**“You walk into my daughter-in-law's home with a married man, and you stand there smiling?”**
**The woman looked at Michael, waiting for him to defend her.**
**He didn't.**
**Then Evelyn turned on her own son.**
**“I didn't raise you to humiliate your wife.”**
**Michael's face hardened.**
**“This is my marriage. Stay out of it.”**
**Evelyn suddenly laughed, but there was nothing warm about it.**
**“Your marriage?”**
**She stepped closer to him.**
**“If I hear that you're seeing this woman again, you're the one leaving this house.”**
**Michael froze.**
**I stared at her.**
**He quietly said, “You can't throw me out of my own house.”**
**Evelyn looked at me, then back at him.**
May you like
**And the expression on her face made Michael go completely pale.**
**“Michael,” she said, “do you really want Sarah to find out whose name is actually on this house?”**
