Chapter 1

I Found a Newborn Mermaid Baby Alone on a Florida Beach—Then I Looked at the Ocean and Saw a Tail Disappear Beneath the Waves

I was walking along a deserted beach near Key West just after sunrise when I heard what sounded like a baby crying.

At first, I thought another family had left something behind near the rocks.

Then I saw a tiny hand moving beside the water.

“Oh my God.”

I ran toward it.

A newborn baby was lying on the wet sand, shivering as the waves reached her body.

I immediately pulled off my jacket and picked her up.

Then I froze.

She didn’t have legs.

Below her waist was a small silver-blue tail covered in glistening scales.

I almost dropped her from shock.

“No… this can’t be real.”

The baby opened her eyes and grabbed my finger.

Her crying stopped instantly.

I looked around for another person, but the beach was completely empty.

“Where did you come from?”

Suddenly, something splashed behind me.

I turned toward the ocean.

About thirty yards offshore, a long shimmering tail rose above the water.

It struck the surface once.

Then it disappeared beneath the waves.

“Wait!”

I ran toward the water with the baby in my arms.

For several seconds, nothing moved except the surf.

Then the baby started screaming.

Not crying.

Screaming.

She stretched both arms toward the ocean like she recognized whoever had just vanished.

I stepped into the water.

“Is that your mother?”

The baby suddenly went silent.

A dark shape began moving beneath the surface toward me.

I backed onto the sand.

Then I heard a woman shout from behind me.

“DON’T PUT THAT CHILD BACK IN THE WATER!”

I spun around.

An elderly woman was running down the beach toward me, terrified.

She stopped when she saw the baby’s tail.

Her face went completely pale.

“You found another one.”

I stared at her.

“Another one?”

She pointed toward the ocean with a shaking hand.

“My daughter found one on this same beach twenty-seven years ago.”

Before I could ask another question, the water behind me exploded upward.

May you like

The woman screamed.

And when I turned around, something was standing waist-deep in the ocean, staring directly at the baby in my arms.
