Chapter 1

"I was thirty-two weeks pregnant with our miracle child when my husband decided to bring his 22-year-old sidepiece to our baby celebration. The second I commanded them to get out, he pu/nc/hed me f0rcefully in the gut, launching me backward into the table of presents. "She's harboring the genuine heir, you barren junk," he m0cked, as his affluent parents literally clapped their hands. I lay prone on the floor, cradling my bump in searing pain, but I forced a bl00dy grin to my face. They were completely oblivious that I had already internally p0isoned his father's business empire, and the federal raid I set in motion was scheduled to begin at exactly 2:00 PM. I stared down at my smashed timepiece—the dial showed 1:59.
Right at 1:59 p.m., I found myself lying among the devastated remnants of what was supposed to be my baby shower. My spouse, Ethan, loomed over me with his twenty-two-year-old girlfriend hooked to his side, smirking like he had just won a war.
The entire room turned de:ad silent the moment he vi0lently sh0ved me to the floor.
A heartbeat earlier, I was on my feet in a light blue dress, carrying our miracle child at eight months pregnant. A blink later, I was careening backward into decorative silver balloons and a massive stack of cupcakes spelling WELCOME, LITTLE ONE.
My hands darted to shield my womb. "Ethan," I choked out, struggling to catch my breath. "How could you commit such an act?"
He nonchalantly straightened his designer cufflinks. "You hum!liated me."
Standing closely beside him, Vanessa practically cooed, caressing her smooth waistline. "She really shouldn't have caused a scene, Ethan."
I caused a scene because he had the audacity to parade her into our residence. Because his mother had literally tapped her crystal glass and proclaimed to the entire room, "At long last, someone who can grant this family exactly what it is owed."
Ethan’s father, the tycoon Richard Blackwell, stepped forward to intervene. "That's enough of the tantrum, Claire. You were always way too hysterical to fit into this family."
To my sheer horror, his wife delivered a slow, calculated round of applause. Then Richard began to clap along. Two rich monsters celebrating while I shivered on the ground.
Ethan scowled down at my position. "She is holding the legitimate heir, you barren trash."
I was supposed to cry. To grovel. To fall apart entirely.
Instead of breaking, a sluggish, bone-chilling smile formed on my face.
Ethan jerked back a little. For the only time that afternoon, I looked entirely at peace. He had no idea I had spent the last fourteen months deep within his father's dirty corporate syndicate, playing the part of the ignored, disrespected spouse. He was unaware that I had delivered every single shady financial record and dummy account straight to federal agents.
He definitely didn't foresee that a massive FBI crackdown was locked in for exactly 2:00 p.m.

I checked the face of my broken watch. 1:59.
"Ethan," I murmured softly, my voice ringing out in the hushed room. "You really should have verified exactly who it was you married..."
