According to authorities, Allen rushed a U.S. Secret Service checkpoint while armed with multiple weapons and opened fire on a Secret Service officer. The officer was struck in his ballistic vest and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Agents returned fire, but Allen was not hit and was also taken to a hospital.
United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro stated at a press conference that Allen has been charged with two counts: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. Additional charges are expected.
Allen, a computer scientist with a background in engineering and game development, attended the California Institute of Technology, where he studied mechanical engineering and graduated in 2017. He later earned a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2025. Federal Election Commission records show he made a $25 contribution to then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle.
President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several members of the Cabinet were in attendance at the dinner. They were escorted from the venue by the Secret Service following the incident. The White House press pool remained at the hotel initially as the situation developed.
The shooting occurred in a heavily trafficked area of the complex used during guided tours. The Secret Service launched an investigation and later closed it without identifying a suspect at the time, citing the lack of usable forensic evidence and inconclusive surveillance footage. Other ideas discussed included ways to flip two or three Republican-held seats under the current map and a “bank-shot proposal to redraw the congressional lines anyway.” Jeffries vowed that the ruling “will not stand,” and Democratic leaders in Virginia filed a motion late Friday seeking to pause the decision while pursuing an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The call reflected what Epstein described as the “desperation and fury” currently gripping the party. It was not clear that the proposal to replace the court would be viable or palatable to Gov.
