“If you’re a right-wing billionaire or a member of the Democratic consultant class, this campaign isn’t for you,”
she declared during the race.
The results highlight growing fatigue with Squad-style radicalism even inside the Democratic Party. Abughazaleh’s campaign faced intense scrutiny after a federal indictment tied to protests outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in suburban Chicago.
She stands accused of conspiracy and forcibly impeding federal agents during demonstrations at the Broadview ICE center, where protesters repeatedly blocked vehicles. In a video she posted on X, she proudly described obstructing an ICE SUV.
“At the Broadview ICE facility, an ICE agent tried to run dozens of protesters over with an SUV as we walked on a public crosswalk,”
Federal authorities allege she and others “physically hindered and impeded” agents forced to drive at extremely slow speeds to avoid injury. The Broadview facility saw weeks of aggressive demonstrations requiring pepper spray, tear gas, rubber bullets, and National Guard reinforcements.
In contrast, Biss avoided intraparty drama and earned the crucial endorsement from Rep. Schakowsky. With the primary now decided, Biss is heavily favored to win the general election in this safe Democratic seat.
The loss marks another blow to the far-left wing of the Democratic Party.
Political observers note that even in deep-blue districts, voters are increasingly rejecting candidates tied to anti-ICE extremism and open defiance of federal law. Other ideas discussed included ways to flip two or three Republican-held seats under the current map and a “bank-shot proposal to redraw the congressional lines anyway.” Jeffries vowed that the ruling “will not stand,” and Democratic leaders in Virginia filed a motion late Friday seeking to pause the decision while pursuing an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The call reflected what Epstein described as the “desperation and fury” currently gripping the party. It was not clear that the proposal to replace the court would be viable or palatable to Gov. Alabama Solicitor General A.
