FIREWORKS! - Republican-Controlled U.S. House Votes 235 to 191 Democrats Throw a Fit As Controversial Bill Passes

Washington D.C. — The Republican-controlled House passed two major measures on Wednesday. Lawmakers approved an extension of the foreign surveillance program known as Section 702 and a budget resolution tied to immigration enforcement funding.

The House voted 235-191 to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The program allows U.S. intelligence agencies to collect communications of foreign targets located outside the country. The authority was set to expire this week.

In a separate vote, the House approved a Senate-passed budget resolution by a narrow 215-211 margin. The measure is expected to begin the process of securing long-term funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol.

The votes followed hours of internal GOP disputes that briefly stalled action on the House floor. A group of conservative Republicans blocked a procedural vote earlier in the day. Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team negotiated with holdouts, including Reps. Andy Biggs, Tim Burchett, and Harriet Hageman.
