Washington D.C. — Radical Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing a major political reckoning in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
Republican challenger John Nagel is directly accusing Omar of being closely tied to the massive Feeding Our Future fraud scandal that exploded in her own district. Nagel points to legislation Omar introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic — the MEALS Act — which he says helped create the conditions that allowed the billion-dollar scam to flourish.
“Where did this actually start?” Nagel asked. “She passed legislation. Her legislation actually started it, and it allowed people to get into Feeding Our Future.”
The fraud, centered in Omar’s Minneapolis district, involved the misuse of hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds meant for child nutrition and other assistance programs. Federal prosecutors say the scheme, largely linked to the Somali community in her district, has cost taxpayers more than $1 billion.
Nagel also highlighted disturbing connections: Omar held campaign events at Safari Restaurant, a business tied to the investigation, and has personal ties to one of the owners who was later convicted. He further noted that one of Omar’s former staffers was convicted in the case.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) ripped into Omar and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on the Senate floor, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the fraud while defending those involved.
“Fox News recently reported that members of Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar’s inner circle, people working for her, were personally profiting from this fraud,” Tuberville stated. “Omar held at least one event at one of the restaurants named in the massive fraud scheme. And by the way, one of Congresswoman Omar’s staffers has already been convicted for his role in the fraud.”
Tuberville did not hold back on Walz either, calling him complicit for allowing a Somali nonprofit to scam taxpayers out of over $100 million in a fake housing assistance program.
“Tim Walz had every opportunity to see this, investigate, and stop this fraud and corruption,” Tuberville said. “Instead, he looked the other way. That makes him complicit. He should go to jail for this.”
This scandal is a perfect example of the radical left’s failed policies in action. Under Omar and Walz, Minnesota became a hotbed for fraud while taxpayers footed the bill. Instead of protecting working families, they defended the very system that allowed criminals to steal billions.
